ENUMCLAW, Wash., Sept. 8 /Christian Newswire/ -- Music pastor Jim Eschenbacher uses his experiences in construction to challenge Christians to take a closer look at the foundation of the church. In so doing, he expects to discover some neglect, damage, and weakened areas that threaten the entire structure.

Jim grew up on a farm just outside Spokane, Washington, the oldest of eight children. Musical by nature, Jim eventually found himself caught up in a whirlwind movement known as the "Praise and Worship Movement." But when Jim's wife died suddenly, he left the Praise and Worship movement, re-entered the world of construction, and focused on raising and nurturing his three young children. During that devastating time, Jim learned to trust, to know, and to love God. Three years later, Jim and his new wife Karla were married. Together they raised the children and focused on God's goodness in the midst of unbelievable loss.

He calls his new book, "Righting Pisa" (WinePress, 2010), a shake-up of some of the foundations of traditional religion. But his goal isn't simply to shake people up; instead he urges Christians not to settle for the emptiness of religion but to strive for something much more permanent: true relationship with God.

"We snowplow while God has called us to soar. We all have our reasons; tradition, prejudice, pain, fear, lack of knowledge, unsound doctrine, insecurity, complacency, the list is possibly endless but the results are the same... we live within certain boundaries we have set for our life with God."

Today Jim is music pastor in Springfield, Oregon. He has served as music pastor in various churches since 1976 and has travelled all over the world singing for thousands of people. Whether he is singing to a home church in China or leading a gathering of thousands in praise to the Lord, he challenges people to go all out for God. Jim and Karla are the proud parents of three adult children and grandparents to six.
