NEW YORK, July 22 /Christian Newswire/ -- They are the first responders to the spiritual crisis wrought by the BP Deepwater Horizon blowout in the Gulf of Mexico -- faith leaders in the coastal communities whose task is to minister to the despairing and the desperate. Odyssey Networks' "Faith at the Gulf" series of exclusive, on-the-ground video reports profiles these men and women and the communities they serve.

The second in this series of five video reports focuses on the Rev. James L. Sturm of the Leggett Memorial United Methodist Church in Biloxi, MS. Founded in 1955 by J.T. Leggett, the church has been uprooted to the education wing of its sanctuary due to damages caused by Hurricane Katrina.  Nearly five years after Katrina, Leggett Memorial is committed to local recovery efforts, even in the midst of the recent oil spill along the Gulf Coast. Rev. Sturm discusses his role as a faith leader to support and restore hope in his local community. "My purpose is being here in the midst of the congregation, in the midst of the people I encounter just to offer them a ray of hope," Rev. Sturm told Odyssey, "It may not be the same, it may never be the way it was before."

The second report in the "Faith at the Gulf" video series can be viewed now at www.odysseynetworks.org. In addition to the video reports from Biloxi, Odyssey's website also offers articles about the work of its faith group members in the Gulf, along with prayers for the recovery of the area.
