K of C Charities accepting donations to help victims

NEW HAVEN, Conn., June 27, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- In the aftermath of the massive mid-June flooding that caused the evacuation of more than 100,000 people in Alberta and surrounding provinces, the Knights of Columbus has already sent $10,000 to relief efforts in the affected area and has established a relief fund for those communities impacted by the disaster.

"The people of Western Canada are in our thoughts and prayers, and we look forward to helping them rebuild their homes and their lives," said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson.

As it has done following numerous natural disasters including hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, the recent tornados in Oklahoma, and the explosion in West, Texas, the Knights of Columbus is accepting donations to assist recovery efforts through Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc. at www.kofc.org/canadarelief.

One hundred percent of the donations collected by Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc. will be sent to those affected by the disaster. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc., is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a charitable organization under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

With more than 1.8 million members worldwide, the K of C is the world's largest Catholic fraternal organization and one of the nation's most active charitable organizations. Last year, Knights donated more than $167 million and 70 million hours to charitable causes.
