Chen Guangcheng: Send a Christmas Card to Blind Forced Abortion Opponent

Contact: Reggie Littlejohn, President, Women's Rights Without Frontiers, 310-592-5722

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 21, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Women's Rights Without Frontiers is launching a Christmas Card campaign in support of Chen Guangcheng. WRWF President, Reggie Littlejohn, stated, "Send a Christmas card to encourage Chen Guangcheng and his family. Let them know that you are thinking about them and support them. Also, let the Chinese Communist Party and the local officials know that Chen has supporters from all over the world."

To participate in the campaign, simply send a Christmas card to Women's Rights Without Frontiers, P.O. Box 54401, San Jose, California, 95154. WRWF will remove the envelope to protect your privacy and mail the card with your message to Chen. WRWF also plans post the cards on its websites.

This Christmas Card campaign is part of WRWF's larger, international effort to free Chen. WRWF's petition to free Chen already has more than 7400 signatures. www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org/index.php?nav=chen-guangcheng#pet. WRWF’s Sunglasses Campaign has photos of people wearing sunglasses from five continents, including such nations as Uganda, Argentina, Italy the United States and China. www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org/index.php?nav=chen-sunglasses

After a hearing of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, Congressman Chris Smith supported this campaign by donning shades and posing with Littlejohn next to a large poster of Chen Guangcheng, created from smaller photos of his supporters wearing sunglasses by a noted Chinese political cartoonist. www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org/index.php?nav=chen-chris-smith

Just last week, Batman star Christian Bale joined the scores of brave Chinese citizens who have made the journey to Dongshigu village in an attempt to visit Chen. Like them, Bale was roughed up and physically forced to retreat from the village.

"Christian Bale is a hero, a real star. WRWF calls upon more people of influence to use their star power to shed light on the darkness surrounding the brutal treatment of Chen," stated Littlejohn. She believes that such efforts, both inside and outside China, will increase the chance that Chen will be freed.

Chen Guangcheng exposed the massive, systematic use of forced abortion and sterilization in Linyi City in 2005. He was then jailed for four years and three months, tortured and denied medical treatment. Since his release from prison he has been under strict house arrest, where he and his wife have been beaten and tortured. No one outside his village has seen Chen in months, and activists are concerned about his medical condition.
