CHARLESTON, S.C., Feb. 8, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- Congressional candidate Curtis Bostic called on congressional leadership to end the partisan bickering and find a solution to sequestration which will have a devastating impact on the economic future of the Low Country as well as placing our nation's security at risk.

"It is critical that politicians in Washington prevent the more than 1.2 trillion dollars in spending cuts that will cripple our defenses and have serious repercussions to the defense industry. America's defense forces are already strapped and our local economy is struggling; these cuts could have devastating effects. Obama and his fellow Democrats are threatening to raise taxes on more Americans as a solution and I couldn't disagree more. It is critical that we stop the runaway spending in Washington and find appropriate areas to solve our country's fiscal problems."

Sequestration was devised as a temporary solution to avert the so called fiscal cliff during budget negotiations at the end of 2012. Since Obama has taken office, the United States has not adopted a budget, but instead has been operating via temporary stop-gap provisions.

"If our congressional leaders followed constitutional spending parameters, we would not be facing this crisis. It has been 1,379 days since our country has had a budget. I find it inexcusable that our elected leaders cannot follow the Constitution and pass a budget in order to pay for the core needs of our nation, particularly defense. I will not sacrifice the national security of our country, the economic prosperity of South Carolina or the fiscal wellbeing of our children for temporary political gain. South Carolinians are tired of it, can't afford it and need someone to provide a solution. I will go to Washington to stop the wasteful spending."

Curtis Bostic is running in the Special Election for the Congressional District 1 seat recently vacated as a result of Tim Scott's appointment to the US Senate (election to be held March 19th). Bostic is a Marine Corp Veteran who served in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, where he won a Meritorious Mast for his conduct during the ground campaign of Operation Desert Storm.
