Georgia Right to Life's Effectiveness Challenged

NORCROSS, Ga., March 24, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- Georgia Right to Life (GRTL) President Dan Becker today expressed disappointment that a local group is challenging its effectiveness as a pro-life advocacy group in Georgia. The group called, "Georgia Life Alliance," served notice GRTL that it will seek to replace GRTL's membership at the National Right to Life Board (NRLC) at that organization's March 29 meeting.

GRTL became an affiliate of NRLC in 1971. NRLC has mentored, guided and helped GRTL in many ways. Much of our success has been aided by their efforts.

"This newly formed organization claims it will do a better job of promoting, pursuing and achieving the primary goals of National Right to Life (NRLC)." Becker said. "That's unbelievable since our guiding principles are the same as NRLC's."

Becker noted also that their assertion "does not bear witness with our proven record of success over the past 14 years. Americans United for Life (AUL) has consistently ranked Georgia among the most protective states in the nation. In 2013 they awarded Georgia the coveted "All-Star" state classification.

Citing a recent GRTL success, Becker noted that the Georgia Legislature last week passed a bill that prohibits using taxpayer funds to pay for abortion services provided in the state, whether under Obamacare, or through health insurance plans for state employees.

"Sixty three percent of House members and sixty six percent of the Senate voted for the GRTL supported bill," Becker said. "This is a tremendous show of support. We appreciate the support of our solidly pro-life legislature and our pro-life Governor Nathan Deal."

Other examples include: Georgia is the only state in the nation where all statewide constitutional officers are solidly pro-life without exceptions; Georgia is one of just two states that have kept manner of conception language out of their legal codes; since 2005, life-affirming legislators have worked with GRTL to pass nine major pro-life laws.

"Georgia Right to Life is creating momentum for the kind of pro-life movement that will not waver or bend in the protection of innocent human life," Becker said. "GRTL is proving that a principled approach not only reflects our moral obligation but also demonstrates a pragmatic path to victory."

Georgia Right to Life promotes respect and effective legal protection for all innocent human life from earliest biological beginning through natural death. GRTL is one of a number of organizations that have adopted Personhood as the most effective pro-life strategy for the 21st century.
