BENISHANGUL-GUMUZ, Ethiopia, Africa, Oct. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- 141 of the poorest orphans in the region have been accepted at the new Kamashi Orphanage & School.
Children come into the orphanage; malnourished, underweight, and often naked having never been to school. They are the un-loved of society, parentless and with no one to care for them. Now they have more than a loving home; the center has a school, grand dinning hall, medical clinic, administration buildings and team/missionary housing. The children arrive timid, quiet and introverted; but now they are receiving the loving attention that many have never known… along with clothing, healthy meals, life skills training and the opportunity to go to school.
“It’s a challenging work,” says Mr. Strawn, president of the ministry, “but its so rewarding to see them blossom into the children they were meant to be in the loving environment of the home.”
The Kamashi Orphanage & School was built for 500 orphaned children, so with 141 children, it's operating at just a fraction of its capacity. Blessing the Children International could fill the home immediately, but are limited by the raising of finances to support the children as they are received. They offer child sponsorships for $30 per month, where they connect a specific child to the donor through letters, reports and updates. Frequently, a donor chooses to be the child’s only sponsor by supporting their full need with $90/month.
Donations received are used 100% for the children, going to Ethiopia for ministry. Non-profit ministries spend and average of more than 20% of their revenues on overhead expenses according to http://nccsdataweb.urban.org. Blessing the Children International also has overhead expenses, but earns those revenues through serving other ministries in printing, consulting, and various services. No portion of the donor’s gift is spent on their overhead.
Every penny of every dollar given for the children… goes for the children.
Mission Trips are offered by the ministry, to those interested in experiencing missions first hand in a country where many things are done much the same as they were hundreds of years ago.
