Defeating Easter TV Myths: 2000-2015 (Easter Series, Part Two)

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., March 24, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- "All we have is the Bible." Everyone get out your Kleenex (sniffle). This phrase was uttered by actor/narrator Avery Brooks on the Discovery Channel series "Ancient Evidence" now called "Secrets of the Bible Revealed." Are Christians stuck with an "all we have" fiction book or is there something to this Bible/Easter thing? The following are examples of what the cable networks broadcast and believe about Jesus' last days.

  • There was a Judas and Jesus death pact (Jesus: The Complete Story, BBC/Discovery Channel).

  • Jesus was shocked about his upcoming death during the Last Supper (The Bible: The Epic Miniseries, History Channel).

  • Jesus thought he was going to die at Gethsemane (Peter Jennings reporting: The Search for Jesus, ABC).

  • Satan, not an angel, visited Jesus at Gethsemane (Jesus, CBS).

  • Barabbas' release by Pontius Pilate is fiction (The Execution of Jesus, A&E / History Channel).

  • Jesus' words from the cross are unknown (Bill O'Reilly's "Killing Jesus").

  • Jesus vanished from the cross (Jesus: The Complete Story, BBC/Discovery Channel).

  • Jesus was eaten by wild animals on the cross (In Search of Easter, National Geographic Channel).

  • Jesus was placed in the wrong tomb (Secrets of the Dead, PBS).

  • Jesus did not resurrect. His followers only saw visions caused by grief (The Execution of Jesus, A&E / History Channel).

  • Jesus did not die on the cross but was drugged to make him appear dead. Jesus was then revived in the tomb by his followers and lived to proclaim himself resurrected (Jesus: The Complete Story, BBC/Discovery Channel).
