LEHIGH ACRES, Fla., Oct. 25, 2023 /Christian Newswire/ -- Robert Heier was born in Pennsylvania in March 1929. He loved his mother, Jessie, with all of his heart. She baked bread during the Great Depression and he and his brothers and sisters went door to door selling it in order to survive. His father, Charles, was a factory-worker turned pastor.

"Pastor Bob" won the hearts of hundreds of people at Indian Creek Park's morning service. Under his leadership, the morning service grew to over five hundred souls. Many people came to know the love of Christ as a result of Bob's preaching. He memorized all of his sermons by heart and rarely spoke for more than twenty minutes. No wonder he was so popular!

He loved to sing "How Great Thou Art" and "It Is Well with My Soul." As a young man, he was a bricklayer and quartet singer. He received multiple awards from the Governor of Illinois for his work as a school superintendent. He held multiple undergraduate and graduate degrees in ministry and education. He was an avid student of the Bible.

In his eighties he felt called to help the people of Haiti and moved there with his wife of over fifty years, Sally. They continue to support children and Christian leaders that they met then. Sally has been taking care of him at home for the last six months after his catastrophic stroke.

Bob claimed to love to watch boxing on television because it reminded him of his childhood: he was one of several children! Most of his siblings have already gone on to Heaven: Chuck, George, Dorothy, and Shirley. Shirley died as a child and Bob cherished her memory until the last breath of his life. His sister, Isabel, is receiving specialized care in Indiana and his brother, Ronnie, is going strong in Pennsylvania.

Robert was the father of Ken, Keith, Kathy, Andrew, Paul and Heidi. Keith and Kathy preceded him in death. Ken's children are Tiffany, Heather, and Brandon. Heidi is married to Joe Sumasky and is the mother of Sarah, Stephanie, and Jesse. Paul is married to Thania and is the father of Pablo, Silas, and Ruben who are missionaries to Guatemala.
