ST. LOUIS, Mo., July 1, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- On July 25 and 26, 2014, Churches for Life [CFL] will help Christians pick up the spiritual weapons of fasting and prayer in its third annual Fast and Feast. Using tried-and-true resources, the ministry is planning to expand participation in this unique event. All resources mentioned are available at www.getintolife.org.

As he reflected on Ephesians 6, a wise Christian leader once said, "Don't go to battle in your boxer shorts." Unfortunately, many North American Christians engage in spiritual battle wearing even less than boxers! They especially ignore two essential spiritual weapons: fasting and prayer. By joining with others in a nationally-coordinated effort, participants can get practice wielding these important items. An article by CFL President, Pastor Doug Merkey, debunks the fear and mystery often experienced over biblical fasting and prayer and is a good starting place for participants.

Fasting and prayer takes place on July 25 and is directed by a Prayer Guide. To boost solidarity among participants, Christian pastors will lead three national conference calls for prayer and encouragement during breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Feasting -- or the "break-fast" - takes place on July 26. Participants are encouraged to organize their own local feasts using CFL's simple guide. A free (though reservations are required) feast is provided for those who live in the St. Louis region that includes an opulent meal, a biblical devotional, singing, and a time of sharing.

CFL exists to nourish churches as gospel-driven champions of life. By expanding the Fast & Feast, CFL invites participants to more deeply experience the gospel and to gladly live it out in the life arena. Previous participants gushed with praise for this event: "I was drawn more deeply into God's goodness, faithfulness, and His perfect will." "I enjoyed fellowship with other believers who desire to draw closer to God." "The bonding was strong during the feast. It was great to hear the testimonies of others who are in fellowship in Christ."
