FRANKLIN, Tenn., July 1, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- "One Generation Away," the much-heralded film about the changing face of religious liberty in the United States, was awarded the Crown Award for Best Documentary at last week's International Christian Visual Media (ICVM) conference in Orlando. The film also recently won Best Documentary at the Christian Worldview Film Festival in San Antonio.

Ironically, director Ken Carpenter accepted the ICVM award approximately 36 hours after the Supreme Court rendered its June 26 ruling on same-sex marriage.

2016 Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum said, "I am proud that One Generation Away, a two-sided, critical evaluation of Religious Freedom in America and the crossroads where we now sit, has won the 2015 ICVM Crown Award for Best Documentary. America has been built on the freedom of a plurality of ideas being openly discussed and debated, a debate that the SCOTUS has now tried to silence. This award highlights the fact that OGA fans the flame of dialogue on both sides of the religious freedom conversation."

"One Generation Away" looks at current scenarios in the fight for religious liberty in the business arena (Hobby Lobby and wedding service providers), the military (chaplains), education, religious organizations (Catholic Charities), and more. The film talks to thought leaders on both sides of the issue, including Eric Metaxas, Tony Perkins, Mike Huckabee, Russell Moore, and many more. In addition to shooting all over the United States, the film also traveled to France, Germany and England to explore the trajectory of religious freedom in those countries, asking what that might portend for America.

"'One Generation Away' is not a film that focuses solely on same-sex marriage, but we recognize same-sex marriage and religious liberty are inexorably linked," said Carpenter. "Never has this film been more pertinent than it is today. When we were making 'One Generation Away,' the hope was that the film would stimulate thoughtful consideration of where religious liberties might be headed in this country, exploring what ramifications that could have on life, as we currently know it.  Unfortunately, the timeliness of the film has only grown since we completed production."

EchoLight Studios is currently releasing the film to churches and public interest groups through the EchoLight Cinemas program, which currently has more than 700 partners. Additionally, EchoLight is touring the film with Carpenter, who conducts a question and answer session after select screenings of the film.

"We're seeing a continually growing interest across the board on the status of our religious liberties," said Jeff Sheets, President of EchoLight Studios, the distributor for "One Generation Away." "We only expect that to increase in the months ahead as we move more fully into the upcoming election cycle."
