Vulnerable People Project Condemns Attacks, Calls for Immediate Protection of Civilians in Lebanon

BEIRUT, April 9, 2026 /Christian Newswire/ — Reports emerging from Lebanon indicate that Israeli forces carried out a large-scale aerial assault on Beirut’s densely populated residential and commercial areas, resulting in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction to civilian objects in the capital. The Vulnerable People Project (VPP) strongly condemns the escalation and warns of the devastating toll on civilians.
According to preliminary figures circulating from local and regional sources, the attack involved an intense wave of strikes within minutes, with hundreds reported killed and more than a thousand wounded- those on the ground say the number of fatalities is likely far higher than is currently estimated. Video footage from the aftermath shows extensive devastation of civilian objects, raising urgent concerns about the scale of the attack and its impact on noncombatants.
“The scale and intensity of these strikes in densely populated civilian areas is a serious concern,” said Jason Jones, founder of the Vulnerable People Project. “Entire Christian communities in the south and many in Beirut are being uprooted, and families are paying the price. Immediate action is needed to protect civilians and prevent further loss of life.”
The strikes come just hours after the announcement of a two-week ceasefire related to broader regional hostilities, prompting alarm among observers who say the escalation risks undermining any fragile de-escalation efforts. Israeli leadership has indicated that operations in Lebanon are not covered by the ceasefire, signaling the potential for continued military action. Vice President JD Vance has made statements in which he claims that Iran has ‘misunderstood’ in thinking that Lebanon was included in the ceasefire agreement.
Since early March, the conflict in Lebanon has already produced catastrophic humanitarian consequences. More than a million people have reportedly been displaced — nearly one in five across the country — as communities face ongoing airstrikes, destruction of infrastructure, and mass displacement.
Humanitarian advocates warn that continued escalation in Lebanon could deepen an already severe crisis, with long-term consequences for vulnerable populations, including minority communities that have already faced displacement and instability.
The Vulnerable People Project is calling on the international community to urgently address the situation, ensure the protection of civilians, and work toward a broader and inclusive cessation of hostilities.
