WASHINGTON, Aug. 10, 2026 /Christian Newswire/ — Faith leaders will conduct a prayer vigil, news conference and demonstration on the southeastern steps of the United States Capitol on Tuesday, August 11 at10:30 AM asking Congress to restore Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for the Haitian Community.
The Supreme Court’s decision on TPS status for Haitians, paved the way for the Trump Administration to start deporting Haitians immediately, even though they have been in America legally.
They will be displaying a large banner asking Congress to protect the Haitian community.
Congress created Temporary Protected Status in the Immigration Act of 1990. It is a temporary immigration status provided to nationals of specifically designated countries that are confronting an ongoing armed conflict, violence, environmental disaster, or extraordinary and temporary conditions.
Alexei Laushkin, Founder of Kingdom Mission Society, comments:
“Haitians are here legally. They are hardworking, faith-filled, freedom loving people. There are great dangers Haitians have fled from and would have to go back to. Companies want them, their neighbors love them. On this one aspect of immigration, the fair thing to do is maintain temporary protections even as needed reforms are debated and worked through.
“Congress should pass TPS extension for Haiti. Grandmothers are being shot on the street in broad daylight in Haiti and the government, such that it is, can rarely keep major roadways safe. Haitians in America are hardworking and patriotic. This is a time to either open up another designation or to extend TPS in this instance for the law abiding.”

“The Supreme Court’s decision on TPS status for Haitians, paved the way for the Trump Administration to start deporting Haitians immediately, even though they have been in America legally. Because of the gang violence taking place in Haiti right now and the unstable political environment, deporting Haitian families is literally painting ‘a target on their backs’ and putting their lives at risk.
“After I spent time with the vibrant Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio, all of them expressed concern that if they were sent back to Haiti their families would face immediate violence. As a nation, we must not let this happen.
“Many of the Haitian community have been in Springfield for years, and Republican Governor DeWine says this about their community: ‘Ohio is on the move, and Springfield has really made a great resurgence with a lot of companies coming in. These Haitians came in to work for these companies. What the companies tell us is that they are very good workers. They’re very happy to have them there, and frankly, that’s helped the economy.’
“Leviticus 19:34 tells Christians to treat immigrants as if they were native born and love them as ourselves. George Washington said; ‘The bosom of America is open to receive not only the Opulent and respected Stranger, but the oppressed and persecuted of all Nations and Religions.’
“America cannot abandon our core principles of freedom, justice and human rights and send Haitian families back to certain violence.”
