Groundbreaking Book Examines Viability of Pro-Life Movement as New Decade Begins

Contact: Mike Fichter, 812-568-1875

MEDIA ADVISORY, Jan. 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- Veteran pro-life leader Michael Fichter today released a groundbreaking book titled, "Viability: What the Pro-Life Movement Must Do to Survive and Thrive." Fichter's book explores the status of the pro-life movement as it enters its fifth decade in the United States.

A leader in the pro-life movement for more than 25 years at college, local and state levels, Fichter draws from years of observation and experience when he asserts in his book that the pro-life movement must renew strategic efforts to build toward long-term viability in the wake of extreme challenges posed by the Obama Administration and Democratic leaders in Congress.

Comparing current life movement challenges to those faced by Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery when it reached the Bitterroot Mountains on today's Montana-Idaho border, Fichter calls these challenges a "gut check" for the entire movement.

In his book Fichter also segments the pro-life movement into five distinct decades: The education decade (1970s), the activist decade (1980s), the political decade (1990s), the strategic decade (2000s) and the viability decade, which began on January 1, 2010.

"My purpose in writing this book is to issue a challenge to pro-life leaders nationwide to begin taking seriously our need to strategically plan to stay in this fight to the finish," Fichter says. "At the top of the list is our need to recruit and develop a new generation of leaders who will carry the baton of the movement for decades to come. We must also develop stronger unity in the ranks, utilize creative means for making our message relevant to a wired generation, and start taking hard stock of political realities that threaten to dismantle every gain the pro-life movement has achieved since 1973."

Fichter is well-known nationwide for breaking new ground in the pro-life movement and is a seasoned speaker, writer, and organizational development strategist. He has been featured in interviews in various publications including USA Today and the Washington Post, and on National Public Radio, CNN Radio, Family News In Focus, and many more radio and television outlets.
