LOS ANGELES, Dec. 11, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- Kirk Cameron, the actor and producer who brought moviegoers the popular film "Monumental," is now promoting what he calls a "new form" of entertainment that teaches children morals, values and a "God-centered view of history" – and it does so "Steven Spielberg-style."

Cameron has partnered with Heirloom Audio Productions, which produces audio adventures that spotlight the Christian faith of the great heroes of history. All are based on true stories and include original music and sound effects, along with downloadable study guides and discussion starters.

"My own family is hooked on these," Cameron says in a new video at FamilyAudioAdventures.com, where all four of Heirloom Audio's audio adventures can be purchased at a special Christmas discount. The CDs are paired with a digital download.

The audio adventures feature well-known actors and actresses, such as Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey), Brian Blessed (Star Wars), Helen George (Call The Midwife), John Rhys-Davies (Indiana Jones, The Lord Of The Rings), Sean Astin (Mom's Night Out, The Lord Of The Rings), Skandar Keynes (The Chronicles of Narnia) and Billy Boyd (The Lord Of The Rings).

Heirloom Audio was founded by Bill Heid, who had the goal of putting Christ back into history. Cameron said the projects "transport you back in time" and "take your family on an incredible journey."

"They're actually movies that are played in the theater of the mind," Cameron said. "They're movies that you listen to, and they ignite your children's imagination."

Studies, Cameron said, show that audio improves "comprehension, critical thinking, vocabulary and attention span."

"And by telling compelling stories, you kind of experience these things, similar to the way Jesus would tell parables when He wanted to communicate profound truths," Cameron added.

"The stories have the power to transform children and families because of the message they contain," he said.

"They provide you and me as parents with powerful ways to communicate biblical morals and values and do it in a way that's big and fun and exciting," Cameron said. "They show your kids a God-centered view of history so that they know who the real heroes are and reinforce the moral roots that once made our nation so strong. My own family is hooked on these. … There is no better time than right now for our children to learn these timeless truths."

Heirloom Audio's most recent project, The Dragon and the Raven, tells the story of ninth-century English leader King Alfred the Great, who prevented Europe from being taken over by Vikings. Its first project, Under Drake's Flag, recounted the story of Sir Francis Drake, the first Englishman to circle the globe. Heirloom Audio then released In Freedom's Cause, which followed the adventures of 13th-century Scottish hero William Wallace, who helped give his country freedom. The company's third project, With Lee In Virginia, followed Civil War generals and tackled the issue of slavery head-on from a biblical perspective.

The projects tell the stories through the eyes of children who are placed in the middle of the action.

Heid founded Heirloom Audio in 2013 after he became frustrated by the curriculum taught in schools and the large amount of screen time that children are exposed to on a daily basis.

"The faith of these men has been taken out of textbooks in America and around the world. These projects are all about putting Christ back into history," Heid said.

All total, the projects received 12 major award nominations this year. In Freedom's Cause won four awards at the Voice Arts Awards, including for Outstanding Production.
