ARLINGTON, VA, May 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Two decades after the Fall of Communism, as the economies of Central and Eastern Europe continue on the path to prosperity through free-market reforms, many in the West proclaim the death of capitalism. In response, the Educational Initiative for Central & Eastern Europe (EICEE) and a coalition of European think-tanks are launching the second annual "Free Market Road Show," May 11-20, 2009, as an innovative effort to promote individual and economic freedoms that were achieved at such great cost in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Free Market Road Show will gather top economists, politicians and academics to travel through eight capitals of Europe, providing not only a rationale for the free market system, but also to explain why free-market economics are essential for individual liberty, prosperity, and civil society. In light of the financial crisis and the temptation to return to failed economic policies, it is critical that experts and believers in free-market economics share their experience of freedom to bolster and protect the newly and yet fragile economies of these nations.

"EICEE is committed to the notion that economic freedom is an essential component of free, just and democratic societies," said Andrew Doran, of the Educational Initiative. "If the economic sphere is appropriated by the State, other spheres of freedom will soon follow."

Notable among the politicians, academics, economists, and business leaders: Nobel Laureate (Economics) Myron Scholes, John Fund (Wall Street Journal), Daniel Thornily (Economist Magazine), as well as Prime Ministers Nikola Gruevski (Macedonia) and former Prime Minister Mart Laar (Estonia).

This year's Road Show will begin in Macedonia on May 11, with international conferences in each country (8) to discuss the financial crisis and the implications of increased government control in the region. The Road Show will continue through Croatia, Montenegro, Vienna, Slovakia, Liechtenstein, and Paris, concluding in the London on May 20.
