CADC Calls on President Obama to Call off the Partisan Defamation of Christians

Contact: Sharaya Cass, Christian Anti-Defamation Commission, 760-630-2232

MEDIA ADVISORY, May 22 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Last Saturday President Obama said at Notre Dame University that we need to conduct our civic discourse without resorting to demonizing the other side. Apparently 'The Democratic Strategist' did not get the memo. They continue unfounded, inflammatory attacks on Christian conservatives in their latest strategy memo," said Dr. Gary Cass, of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission. "This report is hypocritical and paranoid and must be renounced by President Obama if we are to take him seriously about civil discourse.

"'The Democratic Strategist' memo, written by James Vega (posted at www.thedemocraticstrategist.org), entitled 'What is "Right Wing Extremism?"' is another example of the lies and distortions aimed at Christian conservatives.

"There seems to be a partisan political motivation to demonize Christians. This might be part of justifying pending Hate Crime legislation that will silence Christians, and plans to shut down conservative talk radio.

"In the fallout of the discredited department of Homeland Security report on 'Right Wing Extremism,' that labeled virtually anyone with an opposing view to the Obama administration as a potential domestic terrorist, this 'strategy paper' is supposed to be a thoughtful response. But, Vega repeats slanderous generalizations in an attempt to demonize Christians and conservatives.

"The hypocrisy is clearly evident in that Christians and conservatives always denounce anyone who has resorted to domestic terrorism to advance their political ideology, while the left makes heroes out of them. In fact, President Obama is friends with one, namely unrepentant terrorist William Ayers of the Weather Underground. Ayers has been rewarded by the left as a tenured professor at an uber-liberal Chicago university and is out on the liberal speaking circuit.

"Vega cites various leaders of the religious right and claims that they are responsible for rhetoric that incites people to violence. But Obama's liberal pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, can call on God to damn America and advocate a theology that attacks whites as devils, but he is not a problem. But if conservative leaders from the religious right use biblical metaphors to call on America to turn to traditional, biblical values they are considered to be a mortal threat.

"Where was the outrage from the left when leftwing talk shows and newspaper columnists called for President Bush to be shot, or when art galleries displayed pictures with a gun to Bush's head, or when websites sold T-Shirts that said, 'Kill Bush,' or when a movie portrayed President Bush being assassinated?

"The CADC is calling President Obama to call off the partisan attacks on conservative Christians, and to live up to the standards he affirmed while speaking at Notre Dame."
