Advent Film Group Presents 'Lessons From COME WHAT MAY Movie' at the January 2009 Christian Filmmakers Academy

Contact: George Escobar, Advent Film Group, 540-751-1021

MEDIA ADVISORY, Dec. 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- The tide has turned for the independent Christian film movement launched by Vision Forum just five years ago with the goal of reforming culture. 2009 marks the entry of feature-length films at the annual San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival. Preceding the festival is the Film Academy, which provides over 20 hours of formal instructions. Advent Film Group (AFG) will present lessons learned from their award-winning production of "Come What May" (CWM) on Wednesday, January 7. AFG recently signed a distribution deal with Provident Films (a unit of Sony) and the distributor of blockbuster hits: "Fireproof" and "Facing The Giants."

"Come What May" has several notable "firsts" in Christian filmmaking:

  1. First feature film made by and about Patrick Henry College (PHC), a national powerhouse in collegiate moot court and debate (12 PHC students worked on CWM).

  2. First full-length movie streamed online by the American Family Association and GodTube to help inform voters during the November elections.

  3. First independent Christian movie that shows how the U.S. Supreme Court could overturn Roe vs. Wade.

  4. First feature film completed by homeschoolers coming out of the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival movement.

George Escobar, founder of AFG, describes his upcoming presentation: "I will explain how to raise investor funding for Christian films, our approach to student mentoring, distribution strategies, reaching audiences, and applying God's commission for filmmakers."

John Erickson, author of the popular "Hank The Cowdog" book series, which has sold over 7 million copies, says: "There is so much to admire about 'Come What May:' the music, the acting, the characters, the story. The special effects won't damage your ears or eyes. You won't go into depression after viewing it. It's fresh, honest, and beautiful. It's more than 'a good Christian movie.' It's a good movie!"

The film is a 2008 Redemptive Storyteller Award winner. It has received rave reviews from preview audiences nationwide. It has packed private screenings, including an 800-seat auditorium in Grants Pass, Oregon. It garnered offers from 8 distributors, finally signing with Provident Films.

"Every film student and professional should attend the Christian Film Academy and Festival," Escobar explains. "It may change your life. It changed mine profoundly when I went in 2006." Sign up at: http://www.independentchristianfilms.com/
