Josh McDowell to Headline Apologetics Fundraiser with Global Impact

Contributions to aid in launching of Centers for Apologetics Research Internet-based apologetics training in the former Soviet Union

Contact: Paul Carden, Executive Director, The Centers for Apologetics Research (CFAR), 949-496-2000

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., Sept. 21 /Christian Newswire/ -- Josh McDowell, speaker and co-author of the best-selling Unshakable Truth, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker of the annual fundraising event for The Centers for Apologetics Research (CFAR) on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The event will be held at the historic Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California and has featured such prominent apologists as Norman Geisler, Ron Rhodes, and Greg Koukl.

CFAR's counter-cult and evangelistic work in the former Soviet Union will be highlighted throughout the dinner by testimony and by nationals who serve with CFAR "on the ground" in Russia. Both McDowell and CFAR are known for their commitment to the people of Russia. McDowell has received several official honors for humanitarian aid delivered through Operation Carelift. In the early 1990s, CFAR established the first and only evangelical countercult ministry of its kind in that nation.

In preparation for this event, McDowell expressed his concern for the plight of Russian Christians: "The battle for truth is still being waged in the ashes of communism. Cults, superstition, and secularism are giving the Gospel tough opposition. God has raised up a ministry to give believers the strong, scriptural answers they need -- and that's CFAR." Event attendees will be challenged to join CFAR in launching a dynamic, innovative online training program to raise a generation of Russian-speaking believers who are thoroughly prepared to "contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3).

To attend this event, CFAR requests that calls be directed to (949) 496-2000 or e-mails sent to events@thecenters.org. CFAR is actively seeking partnerships with businesses and individuals to sponsor tables for this limited-seating engagement.

The Centers for Apologetics Research was founded in 1995 by Paul Carden, featured lecturer on Rose Publishing's newly released Christianity, Cults and Religions DVD curriculum. Carden has devoted more than 30 years to cult-related research and outreach in Latin America, Africa, eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union.
