Haiti-based LiveBeyond Providing Post-Hurricane Relief, Requests Food Assistance
Contact: Zane Harrington, 972-267-1111, Zane@alarryross.com

NASHVILLE, Oct. 4, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- With Haiti already a food-poor area, Hurricane Matthew has devastated the nation's limited agricultural infrastructure, laying waste to crops in the field and family gardens – the main sources of food and livelihood for people in the region. Food distribution channels have also been disrupted with flooding making roads impassable, as well as ongoing fuel scarcity. For this reason, local humanitarian organization LiveBeyond is stepping in to distribute imported food to those in immediate need, but expects widespread hunger to be an issue for weeks and months to come. The need is urgent to get food shipped to Haiti as soon as possible, and a specific fund has been set up to receive donations at donate.livebeyond.org/checkout/donation?eid=98011.

LiveBeyond also provides clean water and medical care to the region around its clinic in Thomazeau, Haiti, and is working quickly to get clean water to those whose wells have flooded. They are able to assist, as needed, with any storm-related injuries, and are currently assessing damage to homes in the area and helping to repair those they can.

In addition to financial support to provide immediate relief, LiveBeyond founder and CEO Dr. David Vanderpool is asking for prayer for the Haitian people, as many have been displaced from their homes and have had their livelihoods wiped out. "Haitians are such a joy-filled, loving people who have already been through so much," Dr. Vanderpool said. "Many of them have still never completely recovered from the earthquake in 2010, and the severely damaged infrastructure makes them even more vulnerable to subsequent events such as this."

Dr. Vanderpool's experience in humanitarian disasters leads him to expect long-term food shortages and has him sending out the call for immediate food assistance to try and meet the anticipated need, knowing that importing food will take some time. He urges LiveBeyond supporters to stand with Haiti and asks those who want to help the Haitian people financially to consider LiveBeyond for their donation.

LiveBeyond is a faith-based, humanitarian organization improving lives of the poor in Thomazeau, Haiti, with sustainable solutions in medical and maternal health care, clean water, education, and agricultural and economic development. It was founded by Dr. David Vanderpool, a trauma surgeon who has worked for more than 20 years responding to humanitarian disasters around the world. For more information, visit www.livebeyond.org.
