SEATTLE, Jan. 13, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Christian humanitarian organization World Vision is partnering with Big Idea Entertainment on a new campaign offering parents practical ways to help their children learn the importance of serving others.

Just in time for the Easter season, the new VeggieTales® 'Twas The Night Before Easter DVD reminds kids and families of the true meaning of the Easter celebration and the importance of helping others. Through its involvement in the new VeggieTales® project, World Vision hopes to encourage families to make a difference together by sponsoring children in need around the globe.

"Parents often tell us that sponsorship provides them with tools to teach their children about sharing, about God's love for all his children, and about the needs in our world," said Jenny Lockwald, World Vision's Channel/Product Executive Director. "In this new VeggieTales story, Bob and Larry learn the joy of helping others, providing a fun way for moms and dads to start a conversation about how their family can make a difference, too."

The Easter DVD includes a humorous bonus feature in which Larry the Cucumber writes a birthday card to his sponsored child in Colombia, and Bob the Tomato decides he doesn't want to be left out of the fun, and sponsors a child himself. The new DVD also features plenty of other ideas to make a difference, fun VeggieTales® music, and a new character--Cassie Cassava--voiced by American Idol top finalist Melinda Doolittle.

As a World Vision child sponsor, families can make a lasting difference for a child in need and his or her entire community by providing access to basic life necessities--things like clean water, better nutrition, health care, education, and economic opportunities. Sponsors can connect more deeply with their sponsored child through letter writing and regular updates from their child and their community, offering additional learning opportunities they can enjoy as a family.

Families can sign up together to sponsor a girl or boy from dozens of countries around the world, online at www.worldvision.org or in person at numerous Christian retail stores across the country during the DVD campaign. Child sponsorship packets for World Vision will be available inside participating stores wherever there are VeggieTales® Easter displays and World Vision displays.

"The Easter season is a great time for families to come together and talk about how they can help others," said Greg Fritz, SVP of Sales & Marketing at Big Idea Entertainment. "We hatched 'Twas The Night Before Easter as a holiday treat for families, and we're thrilled to encourage our fans to make a difference together through World Vision child sponsorship."

The title's launch is supported by a comprehensive marketing and advertising campaign with licensing and promotional partners such as Gund®, Toys "R" Us®, Walmart®, Target®, American Greetings Interactive®, Frankford Candy & Chocolate®, American Puzzle Company® and more, as well as live events.
