HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 21, 2016 /Christian Newswire
/ -- The marketplace is full of options for those wanting to learn screenwriting. But if you listen close to those in the "know," to learn the real world craft of screenwriting from working, successful writers in Hollywood, the only place to go is Act One.
There is a difference.
Nicholas, a student of the summer 2016’s writing program, says, "The Act One Writing Program did more for me in 10 weeks than four years of college was ever able to get me."
Erika, a fellow summer 2016 student, says that Act One is "a wonderful concoction of knowledgeable speakers, prayerful team leaders, and dedicated participants. A top notch group of kind hearted and world successful individuals who welcomed us and truly want us to thrive."
Why is Act One so different? First off, students will learn how to tell redemptive stories grounded in a Biblical worldview. This is vital for writers that have a passion to write great works that influence society as well.
Secondly, writers are taught by more than one teacher. A wide range of diverse, successful, working writers are coming off the lots and out of the writers rooms to teach the basics (character, dialogue, formatting, structure) and more advanced topics.
Writers will also gain insight into writing from a Christian aesthetic; learn how to instill the three transcendentals (beauty, truth and goodness) into their films; find ways to mine ideas; discover how to develop truly memorable characters; have access to high quality video-based lessons (no bulletin boards here); and experience the Act One virtual classroom where they will interact with fellow classmates as well as a professional screenwriting mentor.
"At Act One, we want you to write truly powerful redemptive stories," says Jimmy Duke, Act One President. "If you have ever wanted to impact culture, here is your chance. Learn redemptive storytelling for film, TV or other mediums this fall in the Act One Online Writing Program."
Over the course of 12-weeks—beginning October 26,2016—screenwriting basics (plot, character, dialogue, structure, world building, and more) will be taught via video courses, group Skype sessions and one-on-one mentoring. Students will have access to 22 Video-based Lessons, plus weekly writing, film viewing and reading assignments.
Applications are due October 12, 2016. For more information on the program, or to apply, visit www.actoneprogram.com/writing-program
