WASHINGTON, Feb. 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- Don't let anyone tell you the financial crisis is too complicated to understand. Stacy Carlson, former speechwriter to Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, Jr., takes you inside the Treasury Department and explains, with insight, clarity and humor, the events and issues surrounding the 2007-2008 financial crisis in her first book, You, Me & the U.S. Economy (www.useconomybook.com).

Ms. Carlson's inspirational, personal story frames an overview of the events written specifically for "Main Street." As she explores and explains the wide-ranging causes of the crisis and the varied attempts to solve them, she also shares the difficult steps in her walk of faith. She combines her knowledge and down-to-earth sensibility in a story that makes complex issues easily understandable.

You, Me & the U.S. Economy uses plainspoken, sometimes humorous, analogies and is a must read for anyone who wants to understand what brought America's economy to the brink of collapse.  In her book, Ms. Carlson explains through a compelling personal narrative, some of the pivotal events and issues, including:

  • Mortgage backed securities and the role they played in the housing market slowdown;

  • The implosion of the subprime mortgage market;

  • The fall of Bear Stearns and why the government didn't allow it to go bankrupt -- and why the government decided not to save Lehman Brothers from the same fate;

  • The government takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; and

  • How and why the Federal Reserve used multi-trillion dollar programs to stave off collapse.

The book also contains a unique "Eureka! Glossary" which makes clear "policy wonkese" and acronyms like TARP, GSEs, MBS and CDS.

Ms. Carlson's You, Me & the U.S. Economy contains a foreword by Secretary Paulson.

From Secretary Paulson's foreword:
"Even today, millions of Americans don't understand the crisis we faced or the action we took.  This book helps explain these subjects in plainspoken language, and from a unique point of view."

You, Me & the U.S. Economy: A Plainspoken Story of Financial Crisis, a crisp, readable explanation of what brought us to the edge of collapse in 2008, was first published in e-book exclusively on Kindle by RosettaBooks. It is now available on Amazon.com at www.amazon.com/You-U-S-Economy-Plainspoken-Financial/dp/ and in Amazon's Kindle Store (www.amazon.com/kindlestore).
