JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 3, 2018 /Christian Newswire/ -- Empower Jacksonville urges the Jacksonville City Council to vote NO on the Southbank development The District. The developer, Peter Rummell, has been outspoken on his anti-2nd Amendment views that Empower Jacksonville cannot support.

In a February 17, 2018 New York Times article, Rummell said he would only contribute to candidates supportive of banning assault weapons.

In an April 3, 2018 interview with First Coast Connect, Rummell said "I'm a strong supporter of Mayor Curry and I'm sure he will see the light" in regards to backing an assault-weapons ban.

"Peter Rummell's anti-2nd amendment rhetoric is not in line with Empower Jacksonville's values," said Harry Lewis, Co-Chairman of Empower Jacksonville. "We cannot support hardworking Jacksonville citizens' tax dollars lining Mr. Rummell's pockets through the development of The District. We will engage our supporters to put their councilman or councilwoman on notice that a vote for The District is a vote against the 2nd Amendment."
