pureHOPE Leads Innovative Human Trafficking Training for Christian Leaders in Dallas

DALLAS, Feb. 10, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- On January 22, 2015, pureHOPE led the human trafficking track at Movement Day Greater Dallas. The track, which equipped and mobilized Christian leaders, focused on education and dialogue to define what trafficking is, explain drivers of its growth, such as how porn consumption contributes to the demand, and how the Christian community can more effectively collaborate on counter-trafficking initiatives.

Movement Day originated in New York City to unite Christian leaders in affecting change across local social issues. Over 2,000 leaders attended and over 170 churches were represented.

"We live in a globalized environment where sex trafficking actually occurs all around us in our local communities," said Noel Bouché, President of pureHOPE. "Our goal at Movement Day was to drill down into the definitions and data together, so that people left more inspired, informed, and involved as they seek to undo injustice through their day-to-day decisions, no matter their vocation."

pureHOPE uniquely addresses the demand side of trafficking by equipping Christian leaders, parents, and college students to understand what sex trafficking is, how it is connected to pornography and sexualized culture, and how Christians can respond.

Even the U.S. State Department's 2013 Trafficking in Persons Report recognized the role of parents and the faith community in changing cultural tolerance of sexual exploitation:

Rejecting long-held notions such as "boys will be boys" and sending the clear message that buying sex is wrong is not just a task for governments, but will require partnerships throughout society, including the faith and business communities…And leaders in civil society--from teachers to parents to ministers--must foster the belief that it is everyone's responsibility to do their part to reduce the demand for commercial sex… Laws and policies, partnerships and activism will continue to be critical to this struggle, but it will also be the day-to-day decisions of individual men and women to reject exploitation that will bring an end to modern slavery.
"Our goal is to keep those flames fanned throughout the coming year, and also to replicate this training experience in other cities across the country," said Bouché.

"We serve a God of freedom and justice, and even in an age of Fifty Shades-style entertainment, where bondage is smiled upon and celebrated, His light will free the captives if His people will pray and be unified."
