WHEATON, Ill., Dec. 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- In the wake of Mitt Romney's much-hyped speech on faith and religion, questions remain. Though Romney remarked that "no candidate should become the spokesman for his faith," early indications are that his Mormon faith will affect his potential candidacy and could influence his presidency. An October poll conducted by CNN/Opinion Research Corp. indicated that 19% of those questioned said that they would be less likely to vote for a presidential candidate who was a Mormon.

Dr. Andrew Jackson, author of the forthcoming Mormonism Explained: What Latter-Day Saints Teach and Practice (Crossway Books, 2008), can help to illuminate both the "common creed of moral conviction" that Romney references in his speech and the distinctives of the Mormon faith which were not directly addressed. Jackson is immediately available for print, web, or broadcast media interviews on Mormonism. With national Christian leaders polarized on Romney's candidacy, voters need to understand what it is that Mormons actually teach and practice.

Jackson (MDiv, Fuller Theological Seminary; PhD, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary) is a seminary professor and a senior associate pastor of discipleship and leadership development at a large non-denominational church in Mesa, Arizona. He has traveled to the original homelands of all the primary religions of the world and taught world religions on the college level. Jackson blogs daily at www.smartchristian.com and may be contacted at andrewjackson@smartchristian.com to set up an interview.
