CHICAGO, Jan. 31, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- More than 11 million Americans suffer from anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder. Even more fall outside of the diagnostic criteria, but struggle daily with poor body image, a fear of gaining weight, and a sense of being out of control.

Jena Morrow, author of Hollow: An Unpolished Tale, has written her second book, Hope for the Hollow: A Thirty-Day Inside-Out Makeover for Women Recovering from Eating Disorders, to bring a message of hope and healing to those who struggle with these devastating disorders.

The book offers a practical and relevant devotional guide/journal to gently encourage and inspire women to accept the truth of God's word as it applies to their bodies. The book includes 30 devotionals that share an applicable passage of Scripture dealing with the underlying themes of eating disorders such as guilt, shame, control, fear and pride. Drawing from her own battle with anorexia, Morrow candidly shares her heart and relays the lessons she's learned along the journey.

"After my first book came out a few years ago, I began talking with many women who read it. They told me how they could relate to my story and poured their hearts out to me. I was able to clearly see a very desperate and collective need for a message of hope," said Morrow, alumnae coordinator for Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center. "I went back to my own source of hope, which is my faith in God, and I prayed for a practical way to get the same hope into the hands and hearts of women who need it."

The book is a follow-up to Hollow, Morrow's memoir of her own struggle with anorexia. It's also a stand-alone book, as one doesn't have to read the first book to benefit from the devotional offered in Hope for the Hollow.

"This book takes the reader through 30 days of practical Biblical wisdom as it relates to the eating disorder recovery journey," adds Morrow. "Following each daily reading are reflection questions designed to be journaling prompts for the reader, or discussion points for both group and individual therapy, and each day ends with a succinct prayer."

Morrow is a single mother and writer. Her book Hollow: An Unpolished Tale, was published by Moody Publishers in 2010. In the book, she shares the cautionary tale of her descent into anorexia as a teenager, nearly dying from the disorder, and her tentative reemergence into life and into the arms of one true God.

She's an advocate for eating disorders awareness and prevention, and has spoken on the topic to various church and women's groups, and to youth and teens. She's passionate about preventing others from falling into the trap of disordered eating and compulsive dieting, and makes it her goal to point others who struggle in the direction of the healing, restorative love of God.

Hope for the Hollow is published by Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas, is available in both paperback and in e-book format for Kindle. It can also be purchased online at www.amazon.com for either hard copy or electronic download.
