California Christian School Defies Economy as Public Schools Get the Axe

LODI, Calif., Aug. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- Century Christian School is welcoming students back to the campus with over $80,000 in donated improvements. In a time when public and private schools alike are feeling the squeeze of the down-turned economy(1), a small city school defies the nightly news with a dramatic increase in local financial support.

Because of the generous support of family and friends, the K-8 school was able to complete an Outdoor Dining Area that doubles as an assembly area and to resurface its playground. All told, parents, grandparents, and supporters raised and contributed some $80,000. These funds allowed for a custom concrete outdoor dining area; fully equipped with a sound system, lighting, custom shade sails, a flagpole, and further beautification through professional landscaping.

"I've always been grateful for the fantastic families we have at Century," says Pastor Dale Edwards, Senior Pastor of Century Assembly. "But this summer has been an incredible reminder that anything is possible when people really care and work together for something they truly believe in."

"I feel like Jimmy Stewart in 'It's A Wonderful Life' as families have generously rushed in to support our school and staff.  I am excited that greater things are yet to come and our best days are still ahead for Century Christian School." -- Chris Finch, Principal, Century Christian School

Century Christian School has a current enrollment of 250 students Preschool-8th grade and has been able to maintain smaller class sizes and more one-on-one attention compared to area public schools.  Their qualified staff and high level of parent involvement allows for a more rigorous academic environment infused with Christian values. Enrollment for the fall semester currently remains open.
