ARLINGTON, Texas, Dec. 4 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Free Grace Alliance (www.freegracealliance.com) held its national conference in Arlington, Texas, on October 6-8, 2008. Nearly 200 people gathered to hear nationally known authors, theologians, professors, and pastors speak on the theme of "Building a Grace-Driven Church."

According to FGA president, Dr. Fred Lybrand, the highlight of the conference was the presentation of the organization's annual Trophy of Grace Award to the distinguished Dr. Charles C. Ryrie. This award is given annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to the advancement of the grace message and who exemplifies graciousness in his life and ministry. "What an honor it was to have one of the most well-loved and accomplished theologians of our generation on stage to share his heart and passion for the grace of God," said Lybrand.

A prolific writer, Dr. Ryrie has contributed to the corpus of Christian and theological writings through dozens of best-selling volumes including The Basis of the Premillennial Faith (1953), Dispensationalism Today (1965), Survey of Bible Doctrine (1972), and Basic Theology (1986). His most notable contribution to Christianity was the publication of The Ryrie Study Bible, first introduced in 1976. Still in print today, it is one of the most popular study Bibles of all time.

Dr. Paul Enns of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago wrote in Elwell's Handbook of Evangelical Theologians that "Charles Ryrie has made a unique and important contribution to twentieth-century theology. His ability to communicate to the layperson undoubtedly stands without peer. Few theological volumes written in this century have communicated truth as effectively to the ordinary individual as have Ryrie's works. Part of his legacy is his example of crystallizing and clarifying the complex topics of theology. Many Christians have been guided into an understanding of Christian doctrine through [his] books."

The Free Grace Alliance offers regional and national conferences throughout the country on issues related to grace and Christian discipleship. For an interview or to schedule an FGA conference in your area, please contact Dr. J. B. Hixson at 281-989-9813 or jb@freegracealliance.com.
