WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- At a meeting of the Conservative Public Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday, former Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney called on President Obama to place sanctions on Iran because of the Iranian regime's support for terror and its efforts to develop nuclear weapons.

Chiding the President for what he said was inadequate response to the Iranian regime, Romney told the conservative gathering: "Remember the B+ grade [President Obama] gave himself for his first year? ... Square that with the absence of any meaningful sanctions against Iran even as it funds terror and races to become a nuclear nation."

Former Speaker of the Florida House of Representative and current US Senate candidate Marco Rubio was also adamant that decisive action must be taken against the Iranian regime. According to Rubio: "We need to make it unmistakably clear that we will do whatever we have to do, for however long we have to do it, to defeat terrorism. We will punish their allies like Iran and stand with our allies like Israel."

Christian Leaders for a Nuclear-Free Iran, an ad hoc coalition of evangelical, Roman Catholic and other faith leaders who have come together as a united, ecumenical voice that is reaching out to policy makers and opinion leaders calling for urgent action to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. The coalition argues that Iran's nuclear weapons program will destabilize the Middle East, lead to an arms race in a volatile part of the world, and threaten the United States and its allies in Europe. http://clnfi.org/.
