LONDON, Sept. 2, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- An actor best known for his roles in the Indiana Jones films and The Lord of the Rings trilogy has endorsed the new Civil War audio drama With Lee In Virginia, saying it is essential listening for families wanting to teach their children history and character.

The actor, John Rhys-Davies, has appeared in more than 75 films, starring as Sallah in Indiana Jones and Gimli in The Lord of the Rings series.

"It is all told from a distinctly Christian worldview," Rhys-Davies said of With Lee In Virginia.

In a video endorsement, Rhys-Davies explains that "when the Civil War ended, the remarkable English novelist G.A. Henty came to America determined to write a book about it -- a book that was to be impartial and objective."

Henty then wrote With Lee In Virginia, which has now been dramatized in audio format by Heirloom Audio Productions and is "receiving rave reviews across the country," Rhys-Davies said.

"Henty's tale is a fast moving, epic Civil War story," Rhys-Davies said, adding that it "teaches character and honor and duty."

With Lee In Virginia stars Sean Astin (Mom's Night Out, The Lord Of The Rings), Kirk Cameron (Monumental), Brian Blessed (Star Wars) and Chris Anthony (Adventures In Odyssey).

It is the latest project from Heirloom Audio, which previously released In Freedom's Cause and Under Drake's Flag. Each one is based on actual events, with the goal of putting God back into history. The fourth project, The Dragon and the Raven, will be released later this year.

Under Drake's Flag was nominated for two Audies -- the audio equivalent of the Academy Awards -- including for Audio Drama Of The Year. It told the story of Sir Francis Drake – the first Englishman to circle the globe -- while In Freedom's Cause recounted the adventures of William Wallace – the Scottish hero who helped lead his country to freedom.

Heirloom Audio was founded in 2013 by Bill Heid, who was frustrated by the curriculum taught in schools and the large amount of screen time that children are exposed to on a daily basis.

"The faith of these men has been taken out of textbooks in America and around the world. These projects are all about putting Christ back into history," Heid said.
