Briercrest College in Canada set fire to one of its large dorm buildings. In a recent interview the Dean of Briercrest College stated that it invites students to think about creation in careful sustained ways. Ethiopia -- Millions of people are starving, 6.2 million Ethiopians are now facing hunger and starvation as a devastating drought grips East Africa. Herders in the Oromiya and Tigray regions suffer severe hunger. Malnutrition levels among the poorest of them have climbed above emergency thresholds.

India -- Just weeks ago, most parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka were suffering from severe drought, and now both states are inundated by massive floods. Weather officials say an area of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal has caused the sudden, torrential rains. In Karnataka, the worst-hit of the two states, hundreds have died and millions of the survivors are now homeless. The flood-affected areas of Andhra Pradesh have submerged entire villages. Both the drought and the floods were uncommonly severe, and they followed each other very closely. Again, this unusual weather pattern may well be an indirect result of decades of irresponsible human behavior.

Climate change conference -- Gordon Brown told the Major Economies Forum in London, which brings together 17 of the world's biggest greenhouse gas-emitting countries, that if leaders fail to agree on a deal on climate change it would spell catastrophe. More than 190 countries are due to agree to a deal to tackle global warming at the UN Climate Change Conference in December. Now the UK Prime Minister has set out a dramatic countdown for world leaders, saying they have 50 days to agree on a way forward in tackling climate change before they meet in Copenhagen. Without a deal, he warns the UK alone faces widespread floods, heat waves and drought.
