Radio Lumiere, Churches to be Assessed for Damage in Haiti

Contact: Tim Rickel, World Gospel Mission, 765-671-7283

MEDIA ADVISORY, Jan. 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- World Gospel Mission is sending a staff member to Haiti to help get Radio Lumière, Haiti's largest Protestant radio station, back on the air. Paul Shingledecker, who served as a missionary in Haiti for 23 years, will also be checking on radio staff members and assessing damage to partnering churches.

Shingledecker is flying with Missionary Flights International, a non-profit mission aviation service to Christian missions in Haiti, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic; and he will arrive in Haiti on January 16. He has made contact with some Radio Lumière staff members, but several remain unaccounted for and are feared dead. Staff members have reported losing family members in the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on Tuesday evening.

Tim Rickel, vice president for communication, said that WGM's goal is to be involved in Haiti for the long haul. "We'll still be there long after the emergency responders leave," said Rickel. "We want to help people rebuild their lives."

"For now, Paul Shingledecker will be our eyes and ears. He will work with our partners in developing the most productive strategy for the long, long process of WGM helping the people of Haiti," said Rickel.

WGM works in crisis situations with our partners on the ground to bring immediate and ongoing relief and reconstruction as needed. Click here to join these relief efforts through WGM's Crisis Relief Fund. For more information, please contact Tim Rickel at 765-671-7283.
