VISTA, Calif., Feb. 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Laughter is the best medicine.  Outreach Comedy, in partnership with World Vision, will be using this medicine to help cure global hunger and poverty with a "Night of Comedy Relief" fundraiser event on April 20th, 2007.   Produced in association with the Church Communications Network (CCN), and featuring some of today's top comedians, this live comedy simulcast will allow churches of all sizes that own CCN equipment to enjoy the event for $199--an event that would otherwise cost thousands of dollars.

Featured on hit shows like The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, popular comedians Thor Ramsey, Phil DiTommaso and Donna East, will entertain sit- down audiences with a night of stand-up comedy—using the universal appeal of humor to raise awareness in churches across the country of the sobering world realities of poverty, disease and hunger.

"One of the greatest challenges facing Christian churches today is how to communicate issues of global concern to the church in a way that will help them respond to this overwhelming need," says Paul Pickard, General Manager of Outreach Events. "Humor has the universal ability to do that.  At the same time, this event will be an excellent outreach tool for churches--connecting with people in their communities who would otherwise never enter a church."

With the Night of Comedy, Outreach hopes to achieve both those goals.  Helping them in that endeavor will be the comedians themselves who besides entertaining audiences, will also talk about their own personal commitment to the cause--demonstrating that hunger and poverty are no laughing matter. Afterwards, event organizers will show a World Vision video, offering an opportunity for people to offer their support through financial support or volunteering.
