Evangelist Alveda King: Pray for a Blessed Independence Day
Contact: Leslie Palma, 347-286-7277

ATLANTA, July 1, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- On July 4, 1776, America declared independence from British rule. The extraordinary Declaration of Independence remains the centerpiece of the Fourth of July holiday which is still observed in America today.

This year as we celebrate Independence Day in America, we have much to celebrate and even more to pray for. There is unrest within and without our borders. Reports of terror and want flood our airwaves. And yet all is not lost.

Now is the time to turn our eyes to Heaven and our hearts to God in prayer for leaders who will agree with George Washington in 1776. "It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible."

As we celebrate the holiday this year, please let us pray for repentant hearts, godly leaders, the sanctity of life and family, civil rights for the unborn, freedom from tyranny within and without our borders, and the cessation of violence and strife among the members of the beloved community.

My Uncle Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: "The Declaration of Independence proclaimed to a world, organized politically and spiritually around the concept of the inequality of man, that the dignity of human personality was inherent in man as a living being. The Emancipation Proclamation was the offspring of the Declaration of Independence. It was a constructive use of the force of law to uproot a social order which sought to separate liberty from a segment of humanity."

Uncle M. L. also said that when we regard the human personality, we won't murder people. There is too much hatred and violence in the world today and not enough love. Let's transform our nation this holiday, with a commitment to uphold life, liberty and righteous Justice.

Pray for America.
