WASHINGTON, March 2 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today the Susan B. Anthony List responded to President Barack Obama's expected nomination of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D) for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List, released the following statement:

"The nomination of Kathleen Sebelius for Secretary of Health and Human Services is further evidence of something gone terribly wrong for those seeking consensus on the abortion issue, especially the President. He speaks of finding 'common ground' on abortion, but then he makes a series of decisions that comprise the biggest overreach since the 1973 Supreme Court wiped every legal protection for unborn children off the books in the Roe v. Wade decision and the Doe v. Bolton companion decision.

"There appears to be complete cognitive dissonance in the mind of President Obama on the abortion issue. He seems incapable of comprehending his own words when it comes to abortion and 'common ground.' One of his first executive orders opened the floodgates of taxpayer funding for overseas abortion providers. Just last week, he announced plans to roll back regulations enacted to protect health care providers' right of conscience. The Sebelius nomination is just the latest in a growing line of pro-abortion policy decisions that are not supported by the majority of Americans."

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius supports abortion rights. In April 2007, she held a fundraiser in the Governor's mansion where the special guest was notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller. The state was not reimbursed for the cost of the political fundraiser for over a year. As governor, Sebelius vetoed the Comprehensive Abortion Reform Act, legislation to implement commonsense restrictions on late-term abortion procedures.

Sebelius is endorsed by the nation's number one abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, as well as EMILY's List, an organization to support Democratic female candidates who support abortion rights without restriction.
