DULUTH, Ga., Feb. 5, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Faith and Freedom Coalition, a pro-family public policy organization with over 700,000 members and 428 local chapters nationwide, today released its immigration principles as Congress considers various immigration reform legislative proposals.

In a letter detailing the principles sent to Congressional leaders, FFC called for modernizing America's broken immigration system based on the Biblical principles of showing compassion for immigrants while strictly enforcing the law. It applauded Senator Marco Rubio and others for putting forward proposals that recognize the need to strengthen families, reward work, honor the rule of law, and secure America's border.

FFC's principles include:

  1. Immigration reform should strengthen, not undermine, loving and intact families.

  2. Insure respect for the rule of law by employers, citizens, and immigrants alike.

  3. Reform the visa system to meet labor needs of the modern U.S. economy.

  4. Secure the border and include "enforcement triggers" in final legislation.

"As Congress considers immigration reform, the faith community has much to contribute to this conversation. Immigration reform is not only an economic and national security issue; it is a moral issue that is best advanced by applying Biblical and Judeo-Christian principles," said Ralph Reed, founder and chairman of Faith and Freedom Coalition.

The Faith and Freedom Coalition is a grassroots organization committed to enacting sound public policy and training and equipping people of faith to be effective citizens.
