NEW YORK, Nov. 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- Nyack College, a Christian institution of higher education, announced plans to solidify its presence with a new permanent campus in New York City and invites the global community to participate today, on Wednesday, November 11th, in a day of prayer and fasting. The event takes the groundbreaking $70 million to $100 million building project public by inviting alumni, colleagues, and friends of the institution located around the world, to join the campus community of students, faculty, and administrators to unite in prayer for this pivotal cause.

Nyack College will hold an hour of prayer from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at seven locations, including its New York City campus at 361 Broadway and its seminary site at 93 Worth St. In addition to the gatherings in Manhattan, the community will also meet in Pardington Hall, 45 South Boulevard, at the college campus and at the seminary located at 350 North Highland Ave., both in Rockland County's Nyack, N.Y.

The global community can go to www.nyack.edu to be a part of the hour of prayer via webcast, streaming live from 361 Broadway in New York City, where President Michael G. Scales will be joined by campus and community leaders.

Nyack College's New York City campus, which houses more than 1,300 students in undergraduate, graduate and seminary degree programs, is located in a rented space where the lease is set to expire in 2011.

"Now is the time in the college's 127-year history to anchor the New York City campus in a permanent facility that will position the institution for growth and further outreach to cities all over the world," Dr. Scales says. "Because it's impossible for us to accumulate the necessary resources for this project on our own, we're inviting everyone around the world to join our prayer circle to seek a miracle that will enable us to accomplish our goal."

New York City is where the Nyack story began, when in 1882, Dr. Albert Benjamin Simpson established the Missionary Training Institute, the precursor of Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary. Today, Nyack College has a combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment of more than 3,000 students enrolled in one of more than 45 majors across seven schools. Nyack College's reach extends to the world through the vibrant careers of more than 26,000 alumni currently serving in 74 nations.
