ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa, May 27, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- Tal Davidson, a 16-year-old homeschooler racing in the Southeast Super Trucks Series, earned his first top three finish of the season on Saturday, May 23, at Kingsport Speedway in Tennessee.

Davidson's early-season success is an extension of his 2014 campaign, where he was named Rookie of the Year at Hickory Motor Speedway, a short track in North Carolina known as the "Birthplace of NASCAR Stars." Overall, Davidson, who has been racing competitively since he was only seven, entered this year with a career average finish of 4.9.

While Davidson is used to setting the pace at the track, he often struggled to understand new concepts in a classroom setting at school, making it difficult for him to keep his focus and catch up to the speed of a lesson.

Those frustrations led Davidson to try homeschooling with Monarch online curriculum from Alpha Omega Publications, which has increased his enjoyment for learning, while giving him more time for racing and working on his truck with his step-dad and uncle.

"With Monarch, you're always doing something productive," said Davidson. "I have more time to understand the material and apply it to real-life situations. It also generates a feeling of self-satisfaction, which increases my productivity. Monarch is perfect for my kind of learning."

In addition to racing, Davidson volunteers with Coats for Kids, a charity in his hometown of Morrisville, North Carolina. He works with his mother and grandmother to collect and deliver donated coats. He said the feeling is indescribable when giving to those in need.

"You go and give a coat to a kid who doesn't have a coat, and it's the best thing that has ever happened to him," he said.

Davidson's racing season continues when the 12-race Southeast Super Trucks Series resumes on Saturday, June 6, at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, South Carolina.
