Pro-Lifers to Rally at Texas Capitol to Commemorate Roe

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 26 /Christian Newswire/ -- Thousands of Texans from across the state are expected to bridge differing religious, ethnic, and political backgrounds to peacefully attend the Texas Rally for Life at the state Capitol this Saturday, January 27, 2007. The Rally will commemorate the 34th anniversary of the tragic Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision. The rally's message is "Roe hurts women." Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life and Pastor Rick Scarborough of Vision America will be featured speakers at the Rally.

 

A number of women who regret their abortions plan to attend; one woman is scheduled to share her story. Post-abortive women and other rally participants are encouraged to bring baby shoes to donate to a local pregnancy assistance center.

 

At 1:30 p.m. the crowd will march along 4th St. and up Congress Ave. to the south steps of the State Capitol for the 2:00 p.m. rally. The event's emcee is Liliana Lewis of Great Hills Baptist Church. Other speakers include the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Austin, Most Rev. Gregory Aymond; Pastor Samuel Clintoc of the Romanian Baptist Church in Austin; and Joe Pojman, Ph.D., Texas Alliance for Life.

  • 1:00 p.m. Thousands to gather at Republic Square for march (4th St. & Guadalupe St.)
  • 1:30 p.m. March to the Capitol begins (along 4th St. to Congress Ave.)
  • 2:00 p.m. Texas Rally for Life (south grounds of the State Capitol)
  • 3:05 p.m. Rally concludes.
