PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 30, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- Rolling Hills Community Church in partnership with Kids Around the World, is challenging 1,000 volunteers to pack 100,000 meals during their FEED 100K event on Sunday, November 3rd.

Hunger is the world's number one health risk. 
More individuals die from starvation every year than from AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. Each day, according to the U.N., 16,000 children under the age of five, die from hunger-related causes.

To help combat the world hunger crisis, Kids Around the World has developed low-cost, high nutrition emergency meal kits. Costing 25 cents each, these rice and soy-based meals contain vital supplements of protein, vitamins and minerals.

On Sunday, November 3rd, over a period of five hours involving four separate shifts, volunteers at Rolling Hills Church will work in assembly line style preparing and packaging 100,000 emergency meal kits to be sent to Nicaragua. Nicaragua is the poorest Spanish-speaking country in the world with a high percentage of orphaned and severely undernourished children.

Besides packing meals, volunteers have also pledged to raise the $25,000 necessary to cover the costs of the meals. Contributors wishing to assist in supporting this project are encouraged to visit KidsAroundTheWorld.com to designate their gift.

Kids Around the World, a faith-based international relief and development agency based outside Chicago, is approaching 10,000,000 meals distributed worldwide. Besides emergency food relief, the agency also provides teacher training and leads volunteer-driven playground building projects in developing communities around the world. Over 300 playgrounds have been built in 60 different countries.
