ECFA 2010 Workshop Series Offers Key Resources to Improve Standards for Ministries, Churches
'Reaching Higher' Workshop Set in Eight U.S. Cities

WINCHESTER, Va., Dec. 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) will debut its 2010 workshop series, "Reaching Higher: Encouraging Church and Parachurch Ministries to Higher Standards in Governance, Finances and Fundraising," January 19 in Dallas.
 
The workshop features presentations from ECFA executive staff, area professionals and prominent ministry experts on a variety of topics, including improving stewardship, best church practices, recession-proofing ministries, best websites to increase giving and nonprofit tax, legal and accounting issues. The day-long workshop also will be held in Brea, Calif. (Jan. 21), Tampa, Fla. (April 27), Colorado Springs (May 4), Chicago (Sept. 23), Washington, D.C. (Sept. 30), Phoenix (Oct. 19) and Indianapolis (Oct. 26).
 
"In these challenging economic times, it's crucial to look beyond the recession and establish higher fiscal standards, which form the foundation for a strong financial future in both churches and faith-based nonprofits," said Dan Busby, president of ECFA. "This workshop is designed to equip ministry and church leaders and board members with the tools and resources they need to not merely survive, but to thrive."
 
The workshop is tailored for church pastors, ministry leaders, board members, financial managers, chief executive officers and other church and ministry staff members. Presentations will focus on a variety of topics, including stewardship, leadership, church issues, board governance, legal issues, small church and nonprofit issues and financial management.
 
Scheduled presentations include "Keys to Recession-Proofing Your Ministry or Church," "Risk Management – a Board-Based, Organization-Wide Approach," "Budgeting as an Effective Strategy for Improving Financial Condition" and "Preparing for the IRS Examination You Hope Never Happens."
 
Busby will present an update from Capitol Hill on potential federal regulations that may impact churches and nonprofit organizations. 
 
Nationally known speakers and authors Dan Busby, CPA, Wes Willmer, Ph.D., senior vice-president of ECFA, and Brian Kluth, D.D, are among workshop presenters and speakers. Other speakers include: Gregg Capin, CPA; Michael Batts, CPA; Frank Sommerville, J.D. CPA; Elisa Morgan, author and former CEO of MOPS International; Tom Winters, J.D., founding partner of Winters & King, Inc.; and Brian Kluth, world-renowned authority on charitable giving and generosity.
 
Registration fees are $59 for ECFA members and $99 for non-members. Groups of five or more receive a $10 discount.
 
ECFA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. Up to five continuing professional education credits may be available for attending this workshop.
