New Weight Loss Teleclass Addresses Black Women's Obesity Rate Disparity

Contact: Kimberly Floyd, Take Back Your Temple, 678-222-0575

MEDIA ADVISORY, Jan. 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- With over 66% of black women citing stress-related eating and lack of time as their top weight loss issues, author and wellness coach Kimberly Floyd has developed the new Take Back Your Temple Weight Loss Teleclass to help women overcome these obstacles to reaching a healthy weight. The program's proprietary faith-based curriculum is the result of an effort by Floyd, the author of 'MoneyWise Weight Loss,' to address obesity disparities between African American women and women of other races.

According to a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control, over 53% of black women age 40-59 were classified as obese compared with 39% of white women in the same age group. Once black women reached age 60 and above, 61% were classified as obese compared with only 32% of white women.

Floyd, who was once 240 pounds herself and dropped from a size 22 to a size 8 says, "Clearly, mainstream weight loss solutions are not working for black women. In my research of the issue, I found knowledge was not the main problem. I was an R.N. at my heaviest and knew about health and nutrition. But like the women I surveyed, I was under tremendous stress and used food to cope."

Targeted to women's unique concerns, the four-week Take Back Your Temple program teaches members about stress management, energy-giving nutrition, and ways to use physical activity to relieve pressure. Members "meet" weekly by teleconference, which provides women with the personal support they need for success, but from the comfort and convenience of their own homes.

The faith-based foundation of Floyd's program encourages women to value their bodies as temples and to make time for self-care without guilt. "So many women are unable to say 'no' or fail to set boundaries with others. Both of these lead to stress. But I teach that this gives them more time to enjoy their lives and the people that matter most."

One of Floyd's clients, Sondra Robinson agreed and praised Floyd's approach stating, "I thank her for reminding me that I am important too and I deserve to give myself just as much attention as I give others."

The Take Back Your Temple Weight Loss Teleclass for Women starts January 22, 2008. You can learn more at http://www.takebackyourtemple.com.
