MEDIA ADVISORY, Oct. 21 /Christian Newswire/ --  Dr. John Howard, a senior fellow of the Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society, will speak on his new book, "Christianity: Lifeblood of America's Free Society," at the Heritage Foundation on October 21.  The lecture will take place at noon in the Lehrman Auditorium.  You can listen live online to the Dr. Howard lecture at www.heritage.org.

Distinguished historian Paul Johnson says of Howard's book: "Dr. Howard has written a powerful and highly readable series of reflections on the role Christianity has played in the history of the United States. ... This is a book those who love America will cherish and learn from."

The book has also been endorsed by a number of Christian leaders and organizations, including Chuck Colson of Prison Fellowship Ministries.  Mr. Colson states, "Howard ably recounts the historic role Christianity has played in the formation and guidance of the United States as well as the consequences of modern America's fall from Christian values.  He does not leave the reader hopeless, however, as he presents an encouraging vision for renewal, one our culture so desperately needs."

After much-decorated service in the First Infantry Division in World War II, John Howard came home with a commitment to explaining and defending the religious ideals on which America was founded.

His public life included service in the Eisenhower Administration. He was also a member of the National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse.

The President of Rockford College (Rockford, Ill.) for 17 years, John Howard also served as National President of the American Association of Presidents of Independent Colleges and Universities for three years.

Over 40 of his speeches have been published in Vital Speeches, including his award-winning 2007 address "Liberty Revisited."
