ENUMCLAW, Wash., Jan. 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Thanks a lot, God! You've let me down so many times, I guess one time more won't hurt, right? Wrong! This hurts beyond belief. I hate You!"

With these frank utterances Deborah Lawyer opens up a dialogue between God and one contemporary woman who demands to know where He is as she experiences loss after painful loss.

Told from the perspective of Rochelle, now full of years and looking back on scenes from her life: the death of her father and mother, a shocking date rape, an abusive husband, abandonment, a dive into substance abuse and, eventually, the loss of a child--this gritty, new fictional story, "I Am Right Here," rings painfully true as Rochelle's tough experiences and anger at God find voice in her lifelong argument with Him.

"But I love you!" God says. "I am right here. You have to believe in Me, even to hate Me...."

"This book is probably a little bit about everyone who reads it," says Lawyer. "If we are honest with ourselves, we'll admit we have all, at one time or another, blamed God for something gone wrong in our lives. Once we stop accusing and start listening to God, we can find the peace we long for."

Through characters like a kind teacher and police officer Jim Hamilton, who adopts orphaned Rochelle at a young age, the author illustrates how God also uses "guardian angels" to speak to us in our deepest trials--and sometimes removes blessings we haven't appreciated or stewarded well.

A career correctional officer, Lawyer pulls no punches in presenting a female character that is flawed, at times foolish, gritty, and real.

"I pray that each person who reads Rochelle's story will understand His message to us in times of personal tragedy, rejection, failure, and loss: 'I don't leave you at those times--I Am right here!'"says the author.

Through years of ever-spiraling poor choices and damaging behavior, Rochelle continues making serious mistakes and railing against God for everything that has gone wrong in her life, finally hitting rock bottom. Even her shallow attempts at faith end in increased bitterness.

In all, God never leaves, nor gives up on Rochelle. But can her wounded heart finally hear Him and fully embrace His love and peace?
