Will Justice be Served or will Abortionists Remain Above the Law

TOPEKA, Kans., Sept. 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Abortionist George Tiller is accused of making a living by breaking Kansas law regarding late term abortion.  Kansas allows abortions committed on viable babies only in cases of protecting the life and health of the mother.  As hearings last week showed, the mental health exception can be for a "single episode of depression" that the abortionist and his accomplice (the second doctor's opinion) ascertain is life-threatening.  This is a profound disrespect for both human life and Kansas law.

Judy Smith, State Director of Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Kansas said, "Abortion providers are not above the law; post-viable abortions performed for vague and flimsy reasons are an affront to Kansans and to the lawmakers who sacrifice their time and efforts to enact laws.  Abortionists should be called to account for their winking at the law.  State agencies should also be accountable to the people of Kansas and make sure that abortion providers are monitored and are following the letter and intent of the law."

Wendy Wright, President of CWA, will be testifying at the hearings of the Kansas Legislature's Federal and State Affairs Interim Committee Friday, September 7th.  She stated, "The lack of enforcement of Kansas law affects other states.  George Tiller actively recruits clients from other states.  What happens in Kansas does not stay in Kansas.  The physical and psychological trauma is exported with the women.  Women in Kansas and those who come to Kansas fully expect that Kansas enforces its laws and that the state ensures its medical practitioners are following directives intended to protect patients.  However, these hearings have revealed that George Tiller is flaunting the law and governing officials have given him free rein to abort babies who would survive if born," states Wright.

The hearings continue Thursday and Friday.  Pro-life advocates will lend their voices to the cries of the unborn at 12:00 pm on the steps of the Kansas Capitol.  We pray that justice will finally be served and that the law will be enforced.
