Foundation Urges Lawmakers to Reject Gun Control Agenda

MONTGOMERY, Ala., June 17, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Foundation for Moral Law, an Alabama-based legal institution dedicated to the defense of the Constitution as written and understood by its Framers, urged Senators to reject Bob Casey's proposed bill banning the sale of firearms to those convicted of misdemeanor hate crimes.

Foundation President Kayla Moore noted, "Senator Casey's proposed bill is only the beginning of many attempts to subvert the Second Amendment rights of Americans in the wake of the Orlando tragedy. The right to keep and bear arms is essential to the preservation of freedom, and we cannot allow continued acts of evil to destroy that God-given right." President Moore further noted, "Gun control legislation is not the solution to America's moral crisis."

The Foundation's Matthew Kidd added, "Hate crimes legislation misses the mark entirely. A violent act does not become a hate crime merely because of who it was targeted at. In truth, all premeditated homicides are hate crimes. All acts of premeditated criminal violence are hate crimes toward human beings, regardless of the victim's classification. We do not need more hate crime legislation. What society lacks is an appreciation for human life – something we've been fighting for in our own pro-life efforts."

Senator Casey's S.3053 would prohibit the possession, transportation, or transfer of firearms for those convicted of hate crimes. This, and other impending anti-gun legislation, comes up short of resolving our nation's deep-seeded issues and only weakens American citizens who have both a constitutional and a fundamental human right to defend themselves against threats of force.
