ENUMCLAW, Wash., Jan. 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- With the influx of soldiers returning from war-torn countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is on the rise. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, roughly thirty percent of these soldiers can expect to experience PTSD sometime in their lifetime.

In order to combat this and other ramifications of wartime service, The Minnesota National Guard recently implemented a program designed to help soldiers reintegrate into civilian life. The program offers services such as marital counseling, financial and legal advice, as well as explanation of military benefits.

Besides offering tangible assistance to returning troops, the program, called Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, acknowledges the universality of wartime stress on soldiers and their families, both before and after their military deployment.

New author and retired Air Force Major Kevin Stroud recognizes the need for help and for hope for returning soldiers. After spending twenty-four years serving in the United States armed forces, Stroud and his family experienced firsthand the stress that accompanies military life.

In his new book, "One Man's Miracles," Stroud narrates a number of significant true-life events. In the midst of danger, marital turbulence, bouts of depression, thoughts of suicide, and the strain of military responsibilities, Stroud acknowledges the consistent and mighty presence of God working in and through the details of his life.

"God has a plan for your life--his gift of salvation. God is speaking to us through the miracles he performs in all of our lives. He is here and he loves you."

For those seeking purpose and meaning in their lives, Stroud encourages others to stop and reflect on the "lucky coincidences" in your life, to remember that God speaks to individuals through miracles and through the hardships of life.

Stroud holds a Bachelor degree from the University of West Florida and a Master's in Business Administration from the College of Santa Fe. A former Assistant Professor at Clemson University, he currently owns and operates two businesses in South Carolina. The Strouds make their home in Seneca, South Carolina.
