SEATTLE, April 26, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Long before the Kony 2012 campaign captured the hearts and minds of millions, God was at work in Northern Uganda.  While many have focused on what Joseph Kony and his LRA rebels did, the question almost no one is asking is, Why is he gone? A full-length documentary produced by The Sentinel Group provides a moving and impressive answer. Entitled An Unconventional War, the film delves heavily into the spiritual undertones of this vicious 18-year conflict and offers another dimension to the viral Kony 2012 video.

On April 27, the Sentinel Group will release an 8-minute short film to highlight the story -- and together with several other organizations, offer a set of spiritual response options to Christian young people who, though moved by the Invisible Children campaign, want to go further. The 8-minute short film is set to be presented by George Otis Jr. at the International House of Prayer on Friday evening, Apr. 27. You can watch it online at ihop.org/weekendservices. Worship starts at 6 p.m. Central Time and George is scheduled to introduce this film at 8 p.m. Central Time.

In 2005, Sentinel Group film crews visited Northern Uganda three times to document the pivotal role of prayer in ending that nation's 18-year conflict with the Lord's Resistance Army. The resulting production sheds new light on one of the most bizarre, devastating, and ultimately uplifting stories in recent memory. In rare and compelling footage, An Unconventional War takes viewers into the magic rituals of LRA bush camps, the raid at the Aboke girls school, and dramatic prayer initiatives carried out by godly parents and pastors. Their courage and the resulting miracles offer a timely reminder that ordinary people can, and often do, move mountains.

Feedback coming from many youth networks and campuses indicates Christians who have been stirred by the Kony 2012 campaign are eager to go beyond social media, community service, and political action. On April 27, we will provide an alternative.

In addition to inspiring young people through the film, An Unconventional War, we will organize a coordinated prayer response asking God to bring Joseph Kony to final justice. We will also offer training on how to become a societal change agent (distilled from a 15-year study of hundreds of transformed communities), along with opportunities to visit these communities firsthand.

The Sentinel Group is a Christian ministry dedicated to documenting transformational breakthroughs around the world, and helping revival-hungry believers prepare their own communities for spiritual awakening.
