Christ-Centered Prison Reform Project Contract Signed and Backed by Dominican Republic Government Delivers Hope

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Jan. 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. David Walden, President and Founder of MOTE USA and MOTE Fundacion Dominicana, Inc., says, "Witnessing a government organization sign a contract using the wording 'Christ-Centered Reform Project' a number of times within the document is a huge sign of hope for the inmates and the Christian community." Walden continues to say, "Christ-Centered Prison Reform has been MOTE's way for fifteen years, now it is also the way of the Dominican Republic prison system."

On December 12, 2009, Dr. Walden (also known as Chappy Dave) sat down with Dr. Manuel De Jesus Perez Sanchez, the Director General de Prisones in the Dominican Republic, for the official contract signing. This significant milestone is a result of three years of dedication by the MOTE Christian organization to implement a biblically-based reform program into all of the Dominican Republic prisons. MOTE's four component program involves: 1) Evangelism that addresses the spiritual life; 2) Discipleship that addresses the disciplined life; 3) Education that addresses emotional character and mental attitude; and 4) Employment Development that prepares the men and women with job training so that they can return to the community as a productive contributor to society.

The three year contract outlines collaborative efforts in the development and implementation of a Christ-Centered Reform Project designed to transform people and reduce prison recidivism. The Director General recognizes the need to reduce recidivism in the Dominican Republic's twenty-two prison systems, and therefore has agreed to join forces with MOTE and the Christian community. MOTE has been provided with facilities within the prison required to operate and execute the program effectively, as well as access to two acres of land where MOTE is in the process of implementing a farming project as part of the education and rehabilitation process.

Calvin Casey, a civil engineer, performed a site survey of the land and concluded that to get the project operational is simply a matter of clearing existing debris, tilling the ground, and mapping the elevations for proper drainage. After visiting La Victoria prison in the Dominican Republic and seeing MOTE's program first hand Casey shared, "It is truly amazing to experience and watch a man like Chappy who truly exemplifies somebody living a Christ-like life and has given up everything to change the lives of these men who have nothing." The Director General has set aside a fifty acre parcel of land just outside the prison which will be designated for MOTE’s agricultural program once results from the two acre parcel are presented.

MOTE's Christ-Centered Collaboration approach has demonstrated great success in the prisons in Mexico for over fifteen years. The new contract with the Dominican Republic prison system will enhance MOTE's effectiveness in carrying out its mission around the world. Dr. Walden says, "Three years of time and financial resources put toward the Dominican Republic prison system has laid a solid foundation for its Christ-Centered Rehabilitation Program. I believe that the DR is a country where in the heart of their flag is the Bible opened to John 8:32, 'And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'"

MOTE desperately needs help both in prayer and financial resources to keep this project up and running so that lives can continue to be transformed. As full-time missionaries, David, and his wife Sandee, have sacrificed everything and dedicated their lives to the men and women in prison. This contract has opened the door wide for MOTE to reach thousands of men and women, restore families, put people back to work, and give them a hope and a future. Please help MOTE keep the door open and deliver a hope and a future to those in even greater desperation.
